Kasabonika Lake First Nation – A statement has been issued by Chief and Council from Kasabonika Lake First Nation over an incident in the community.

NetNewsLedger has contacted Nishnawbe Aski Police who have no information at this time but referred NNL to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Kasabonika Lake First Nation Statement

A police investigation has been launched and officers from the Ontario Provincial Police will conduct an investigation. Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service is sending additional personnel to our community to support the investigation.

We are doing everything possible to protect the integrity of the investigations and are confident that the police will conduct a thorough investigation.

We would like to remind everyone that it is important not to jump to conclusions about this incident. We ask that people refrain from spreading rumours or making comments through social media before the investigation is completed and facts are known. These comments are hurtful and are causing unnecessary grief for the families involved.

We are meeting with the appropriate authorities and agencies, including Nishnawbe Aski Nation, to secure the necessary supports for the families involved.

The loss of one of our youth is a tragedy for our community. We encourage people to support each other during this difficult time and to pray for the families.

NetNewsLedger will update as facts are available.
