THUNDER BAY – A structural fire at Resolute Forest Products was extinguished by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.
Crews responded at 03:18 to a report of a structural fire at 2001 Neebing Ave – Resolute Forest Products.
Four Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Pumpers, as well as an Aerial Ladder, arrived on scene and were guided to the location of the fire by security staff.
The initial Fire unit arrived at the fire location and was met by the Resolute on-site Fire Chief.
He indicated to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue personnel that there was a fire in number 5 paper machine caused by a bearing failure in that machine with some spread of fire to the ventilation system.
He also informed us that mill employees had brought the fire under control prior to our arrival.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service personnel assisted Resolute employees with the complete extinguishment of the fire.
The impact on the papermaking machine and the mill is not known at this time.
