Toronto – Today, Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald is celebrating International Women’s Day, alongside First Nations leadership in Ontario, while encouraging all Canadians to take part in highlighting the significant contributions made by women across the globe.

“On behalf of the Chiefs across Ontario, I’d like to pay tribute to the many accomplishments made by women across the globe and their ongoing fight for gender equality,” said Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald. “While celebrating the many successes and contributions women have made, we must also remember that this was not an easy feat, for First Nations women in particular.”

“For far too long First Nations women have been marginalized, silenced, and faced incredible barriers which have attempted to hold us back from realizing our true potential,” said Regional Chief Archibald. “It is our collective responsibility to create space for First Nations women so their many gifts, talents, and contributions will have a visible presence in mainstream Canada. We, as the Chiefs in Ontario, will continue this ongoing dialogue of #BalanceforBetter and gender equality. This year’s theme is a call-to-action for all Canadians, and it’s vital for setting the tone and creating the open spaces required to balance for the better”.

“Today is a day to reflect on the incredible achievements of women, while also acknowledging the work we collectively need to continue. I encourage all to get involved this year and celebrate this day together as we look toward the future, standing shoulder-to-shoulder, breaking barriers, setting the path, and walking it together.”
