Three-time PBR Canada Champion Roy finishes second in Round 1 of the first-ever PBR Canada Monster Energy Tour event in Lethbridge

NEW YORK CITY – At the first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Monster Energy Tour event in Lethbridge, Alberta, Cody Casper (Newport, Washington) emerged victorious in Round 1, leaving the ENMAX Centre the leader of the Bridge City Chrysler/LA Towing PBR Challenge following the first night of action.

The 26-year-old recorded the top marks in Round 1 after making the 8 aboard After Hours (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 85.5 points. For the round-winning score, the American cowboy collected 100 Canadian points.

Special to the Lethbridge event, Casper, as the winner of Round 1, advanced to the Challenge of Champions, where he faced 2018 PBR Canada Bull of the YearHappy Camper (Two Bit Bucking Bulls). With the opportunity to win $2,500 on the line, Casper was unable to cover the bovine athlete from nearby Magrath, Alberta, bucked off in 2.21 seconds.

Three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) finished second to net 60 Canadian points.

Roy who recently became the first Canadian rider in PBR history to eclipse the $1 million in career earnings mark, rode Homeboy (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 85 points to secure the runner-up finish.

After riding Morning Wish (Wild Hoggs/Trish Streeter) for 84.5 points, local rider Dayton Johnston (Milk River, Alberta) finished third to earn 50 Canadian points.

Billy West (Cadogan, Alberta) concluded the opening round fourth.

The eldest of the trio of bull riding West brothers rode Throwing Shade (Flying High Rodeo Co.) for 84 points to collect 40 points towards the Canadian national standings.

Two riders, Shay Marks (Sunny Brook, Alberta) and Jackson Scott (Kamloops, British Columbia), tied for fifth after each covered their Round 1 draws for 83 points.

For Marks, he made the 8 aboard Rebel Soul (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls), while Scott covered Playing Chicken (Vold Rodeo).

Each cowboy leaves the opening night inside the ENMAX Centre with 22.5 national points.
