Partnership with Meno Ya Win Health Centre
SIOUX LOOKOUT – REGIONAL – February has brought two changes in frontline staffing for the Sioux Lookout OPP. Constable Ben BYE has accepted a road assignment as an Acting Sergeant, leaving the Community Safety/Mobilization Officer (CSO/CMO) role that he has successfully filled the past two years.
This position has been taken over by Constable Andrea DEGAGNE. Constable DEGAGNE joined the Sioux Lookout OPP in February of 2018 and has been dedicated to community policing strategies.
In the CSO/ CMO role, Constable DEGAGNE will continue proactive policing efforts in Sioux Lookout, collaborating with our community partners and stakeholders to make our community a safer place by connecting people with the resources they require and implementing public education programs and events.
The Sioux Lookout OPP have recently partnered with the Meno Ya Win Health Centre to hire a Crisis Response Nurse (CRN), Mirjana PRICE. Ms. PRICE is a Registered Nurse with experience in Mental Health/Crisis, Emergency-Trauma, Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, and she has also taught in the nursing program at Conestoga College. The CRN position is funded through the Proceeds of Crime program, which enables the CRN to work directly from the Sioux Lookout OPP detachment.
Working from the detachment enables Ms. PRICE to attend live calls related to mental health, crisis, addictions, or family disputes. With her nursing skills and experience, Ms. PRICE is able to help de-escalate the client/situation, complete a mental health assessment, and provide support and resources for the client and their family. Her skills have already been well-received, and Ms. PRICE has already connected 25 people with the health services they require in the 11 shifts she has worked with the OPP.
The OPP is committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities. Any requests for partnership or support can be brought to the attention the Sioux Lookout OPP.
