THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Thunder Bay major and minor midget Kings are off to the Detroit, Mich., suburb of Troy this weekend to compete in the North American Prospects Hockey League’s final event of the 2018-19 season, the Dixon Cup Championship.
Competing in the respective under-18 and U-16 divisions, the major midgets will commence play Friday with a pair of match-ups on their docket.
They’ll take on CarShield AAA from St. Louis at 8:15 a.m. before finishing up the day against the Everett Silvertips of Washington State at 4:15 p.m.
Saturday then has the U-18 Kings tangling with the Arizona Bobcats at 12:15 p.m.
As for Thunder Bay’s minor midget squad, their initial opponent will be Colorado’s Rocky Mountain RoughRiders Friday at 2 p.m.
Next will be a 10 a.m. meeting against CarShield’s U-16 club Saturday while an encounter with Arizona’s U-16 team awaits them at 6 p.m. later that same day.
Following round-robin competition, the clubs will play either consolation or semifinal games Sunday while the U-16 championship game is set for 6 p.m. and the U-18 title will be decided at 8 p.m.
A total of 16 teams in each age group will be vying for Dixon Cup crowns.
