Three Vehicle Collision Near Kenora Results in Fatality

Highway 17 is Closed for Investigation

KENORA – Earlier today an accident closed Highway 17. The OPP have now issued an update on the three-vehicle accident.

On Monday, February 11, 2019, at approximately 2:30 p.m., The Kenora OPP received a complaint of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 17 and Highway 596 junction.

Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Technical Traffic Collison Investigators (TTCI) and the Highway Safety Division (HSD) are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 17.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, who was the lone occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other injuries are unknown at this time.

The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The highway closure has resulted in a moderate system-wide delay for all buses servicing Kenora and area. Due to an intersection road closure KN33, KN39, KN41 and KN42 may be considerably late.

The highway will be closed for an unknown length of time. The investigation is continuing.
