MARATHON – REGIONAL News – On Saturday, February 9, 2019, at approximately 06:00 pm, members of the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision (MVC), involving a tractor-trailer unit (TTU) on Highway 17, approximately 40km west of Marathon near the Prairie River Bridge.
A westbound TTU caught the north shoulder of the road on a curve. The driver turned the truck back to the road but momentum and the weight of the trailer drove the truck across the highway into the eastbound ditch. The trailer swung around tipping onto its side. The complete TTU came to rest facing eastbound in the eastbound ditch.
The driver, a 35 year old female from Sudbury, ON, was uninjured and transported to Marathon by a passing motorist. The Marathon Fire Department (MFD) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to the call but were cancelled once it was confirmed that the driver was uninjured.
Clean up and towing services will be on scene for the next couple of days with traffic possible being delayed for short periods of time while the TTU is being removed. We ask that motorist use caution, respect the signage, and please slow down while traveling through the area until the removal and cleanup is completed.
Drive safe and stay alert.
