Home Explosion in Caledon Results in Death of 54-Year-Old Man

CALEDON, ON – NEWS – A fifty-four-year-old man is dead following the explosion of his home in Caledon Ontario.

The Ontario Provincial Police report that on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at approximately 6:20 am officers from the Caledon Detachment of the OPP responded to a call regarding an explosion in the area of Charleston Side Road and Maple Grove Road in the Town of Caledon. On arrival, officers found that the residence located at 9 Maple Grove Road has been destroyed.

The devastation is total little of the home is left following the explosion which is under investigation as to the cause.

Police assisted with the evacuation of area residents. Approximately 30-35 persons were evacuated.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management have attended and commenced an investigation. The Caledon OPP are assisting with the investigation.

Police advise that Charleston Side Road remains closed from Highway 10 to Kennedy Road. Maple Grove Road is closed from Charleston Side Road to Spruce Road.

The deceased resident has been identified as: Joseph WESTCOTT, 54 years old.
