Motor Vehicle Accident in Oliver Paipoonge Results in Charge

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – On January 30, 2019, at approximately 9:30 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oliver Paipoonge Fire and Emergency Services and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 130 and Arthur Street West.

The driver of a pick-up truck was northbound on Highway 130, entered the intersection of Arthur Street West and collided with a westbound Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

Both vehicles entered the northwest ditch. The SUV struck a hydro pole causing the pole to break.

The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The driver of the truck was charged with Fail to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway contrary to section 136(1)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act.
