THUNDER BAY – NEWS – UPDATED – The Ontario Provincial Police are reporting on a fatal accident on Highway 102.
On January 29, 2019, at approximately 12:05 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Kaministiquia Volunteer Fire Department, and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 102 and Hill Road.
The driver of a passenger vehicle driving on Hill Road, entered the intersection onto Highway 102 to proceed eastbound and collided with an eastbound tractor-trailer.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The identification of the driver of the vehicle is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not sustain any injuries.
OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
Highway 102 at Mapleward Road and at the junction of Highway 11/17 (Sistonen’s Corner) remains closed at this time. Motorists are asked to use an alternate route as police continue the investigation.
