CHICAGO, IL — SPORTS – The Gridlink Midget A Queens won the U19 division championship at the Chicago Girls Winter Classic this past Monday.
After going 2-1-0 in round robin action, the Queens won three one-goal games en route to championship gold.
Kayla Stein would notch the game-winner in a 3-2 victory over the Omaha Lady Jr Lancers in the quarterfinals, with Gaby Andreacchi and Sarah Grieve also finding the back of the net. Stein would again score the eventual game winning goal in the semifinals just 50 seconds after Olivia Nicholl opened the scoring in a 2-1 win over the Aurora Panthers.
In the championship game against the Northshore Warhawks, the Queens would need to rally from behind as Nicholl once again scored to get things rolling. Grieve followed soon after with a goal and Sibley Duckert potted the golden goal in a 3-2 win, taking home the gold medal.
The Midget As end the tournament with a 5-1-0 record, outscoring their opponents 16-7.
