NICKEL BELT-GREATER SUDBURY – Following the Cabinet shuffle announcement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier today, Marc Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt issued the following statement:
“As Chair of the National Rural Caucus I would like to commend the Right Honorable Justin Trudeau and the Government of Canada for hearing the concerns and feedback of Canadians and for taking action by creating the Rural Economic Development Ministry. This new Ministry will further grow the economy and create good middle-class jobs.
I wish to extend a sincere congratulation to the Honorable Bernadette Jordan on her well-deserved appointment as Minister of Rural Economic Development. Bernadette is an excellent choice as she is no stranger to the challenges faced by rural Canadians. She will certainly have a strong voice and be a great advocate for Rural Canadians at the cabinet table.
The Rural Economic Development Ministry will allow for a more competitive, diversified and productive economy. The National Rural Caucus team looks forward to working with Bernadette to bring high-speed internet to rural homes and businesses, and to work with municipalities, provinces, territories and Indigenous partners to meet infrastructure needs of rural communities. Working together with a multi-faceted and collective approach will make it easier to tackle challenges that are unique to rural Canada.
The creation of the Rural Economic Development Ministry validates that there is still work to be done to assure that our communities are connected and that our industries remain competitive. I will continue to work hard so that Nickel Belt and all Northern Ontario residents have their voices heard so that we can deliver results and create a better tomorrow.”
