FORT SEVERN – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued Extreme Cold Warnings for the Far North. Peawanuck and Fort Severn / Washaho Cree Nation are expecting extremely cold conditions.

For Fort Severn the weather service is calling for partly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of flurries early this morning. Clearing this morning, with winds up to 15 km/h. High minus 26. Wind chill near minus 39. Risk of frostbite. UV index 1 or low.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Fort Severn
  • Peawanuck

Wind chill values of minus 45 to minus 50 are expected early Sunday morning.

Wind chill values were not as cold as expected this morning due to cloud cover keeping the temperatures warmer than forecast.

However, wind chill values will drop to minus 45 to minus 50 overnight into Sunday morning for areas near Hudson Bay.

This pattern of extreme cold wind chill values during the overnight and morning hours could recur daily for the next several days.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
