Thunder Bay Police Arrest Robbery Suspect

image: Depositphotos.comTHUNDER BAY – NEWS – A 39-year-old Thunder Bay man is in custody facing a number of charges following a foot chase and apprehension by Uniform Patrol officers yesterday morning.

The man had fled the Shoppers Drug Mart at 901 Red River Road just after 11:00 am following an altercation with a store employee. The man had been confronted when he was attempting to leave the store without paying for merchandise. The male claimed to have a weapon and then ran from the store. The employee was not injured in the confrontation.

An officer responding to the 911 call regarding the incident spotted a person matching the description of the suspect in the vicinity of Walkover Street and Junot Avenue. The suspect ran into a backyard of a residence on Junot Avenue. The officer pursued on foot and was able to take the man into custody with the assistance of another patrol officer.

The 39-year-old male is in custody and will be making his first court appearance via video this morning. He is facing charges of Robbery, Resisting a Peace Officer and Wearing a Disguise with Intent.
