THUNDER BAY – On Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at approximately 10:00 am officers from the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 11 and Gas Road in Lake Helen First Nation.
The driver of a blue Dodge pickup truck collided into the rear of a grey Ford Fusion as it was turning from Highway 11 onto Gas Road. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.
While investigating, officers detected an odour of alcohol on the breath of the driver of the Dodge pickup truck. Officers had the driver provide a roadside breath sample into the approved screening device (ASD) and registered fail. He was then transported to the Nipigon OPP detachment, where he underwent further testing.
As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Dakota LANDS of Atikokan was charged with Drive Over 80 Milligrams contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of February 19, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon. None of the charges have been proven in court.
