SHUNIAH – Fourteen Shuniah Fire and Emergency Services firefighters responded to a report of a recreational vehicle trailer on fire at approximately 7:30 pm on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. The fire was reported to be on Lakeshore Drive in the Municipality of Shuniah. SFES was assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police.

The first arriving crews reported that there was a fully involved RV trailer along with a venting propane tank in close proximity to a detached garage.

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down quickly, thus preventing the fire spreading to the garage. The fire was declared out at approximately 8:15 pm.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

All of the SFES units were back in service by 10:00 pm.

While the causes of this fire have not been determined, SFES would like to take this opportunity to recommend that RV owners have their electrical and propane systems inspected regularly to prevent RV fires.
