Bantam Kings in Sudbury for 39th Big Nickel tourney

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Bantam Kings are in Sudbury this weekend to compete in the 39th annual Big Nickel hockey tournament.

Thunder Bay begins competition in the six-team AAA bantam division tonight as they take on the host Nickel City Sons at 8 p.m.

Friday has a pair of games on the club’s docket against teams from the Ottawa area, beginning with a 1 p.m. encounter vs. the  Gloucester Rangers before finishing up with the Canadian International Hockey Academy, based in Rockland, Ont., at 6:30 p.m.

The Kings then wrap-up round-robin play Saturday at 11:15 a.m. as they will take on the Ontario Hockey Academy from Cornwall.

Semifinal action will then commence later that evening with the championship game set for 11 a.m. Sunday.

Thunder Bay enters the event as defending champions in the AAA bantam category.
