Provincial Housing Conference in Thunder Bay: Spurring Affordable Housing Development

THUNDER BAY – New Ideas, Approaches and Tools. Housing leaders from across Ontario are coming to Thunder Bay for a special one-day forum.

This forum hosted in partnership with The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB), The Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association (NOSDA) and the Housing Services Corporation (HSC).

Housing practitioners, planners, senior decision-makers, developers, non-profit housing organization or community partners will learn from tangible examples of advancing affordable housing development in Northern Ontario.

At the end of the conference, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the landscape and built an environment of affordable housing projects in the city of Thunder Bay. The tour will take participants through the following projects:
•Donald Street East- new eight-plex development of affordable housing for single, non-seniors. Designed to be energy efficient.
•McIvor Court- typical large building with an interior opportunity for development
•Northern Linkage- new affordable housing facility [24 single-bedroom apartments; 4 units specifically designed for an individual in wheelchairs]
•Lendrum- housing with supports for young mothers
•Jasper Place- senior housing with supports

The tour will be provided by bus with stops at selected sites to enable participants to view specific projects and to provide a more in-depth explanation of a project.
