BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Kings posted a 1-1-1 record in Round 2 play Sunday in the North American Prospect Hockey League in Blaine, Minn.
Action in the under-18 division saw the major midget Kings double up the Colorado Springs Tigers 4-2 before being edged 3-2 by the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres while the Thunder Bay’s minor midgets fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes.
In the triumph over the Tigers, the Kings got two goals, including the game-winner, from Nikolas Campbell and two more tallies off the stick of Jordan Baranesky.
Dawson Lampi picked up two assists in the victory while Eric Vanska earned the win in net.
Against the Sabres, Nicholas DeGrazia and Travis Hensrud connected for the Kings who were tied 2-2 after one and down 3-2 through two.
Jordan Smith was in goal for the defeat.
Meanwhile in the U-16 meeting, Thunder Bay trailed 1-0 into the third period only to see Noah Broughton force overtime with just over 10 minutes left in regulation.
After a scoreless OT, Ryan Finch notched the only effort in extra shots on six attempts to give the Hurricanes the win.
Julien Lefebvre stopped 26 of 27 in helping the Kings pick-up a point in the loss.
Round 2 in the NAPHL concludes Monday with minors taking on Colorado Springs’ U-16 side at 8 a.m. while the majors meet the Florida Alliance in U-18 competition at noon.
