Edmonton, AB – The Lakehead men’s basketball team lost tonight to the Alberta Golden Bears, 84-72, in a non-conference game at the Saville Community Sport Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.
Alberta made a small push at the end of the first to give them a 19-12 lead after the first ten minutes. The Thunderwolves tried to find their way in the second quarter but struggled against the Bears and were down 51-32 at the half.
The Thunderwolves overall outscored Alberta 40-33 in the second half but could not make up their deficit from the first, ultimately losing 84-72.
“Tough battle with a very good Alberta team. They competed from the tip and hurt us in the second quarter. Tomorrow we will have to play with a bit more intensity and toughness from the start against a big and talented UBC squad,” said coach Ryan Thomson after the game.
Lock Lam led the Thunderwolves tonight with 20 points, going 9-10 from the free throw line. Davarius Wright had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals while Nick Burke put up 11.
Lakehead was 80% from the free throw line and only had 8 turnovers compared to Alberta’s 18, but the Thunderwolves only had 29 rebounds while the home team had 51 total.
The Thunderwolves take on UBC tomorrow.
