SHOAL LAKE = On April 30, 2011, the Treaty Three Police Service requested the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) concerning a fatal single motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Shoal Lake 40 First Nations Territory. The investigation was completed and it was determined based on the evidence review at the time, there was insufficient evidence to lay a criminal charge.

As a result of new information received, the investigation was re-opened and commenced with members from the Treaty Three Police Service, OPP North West Region Crime Unit, Technical Traffic Collision Investigators and OPP Forensic Identification Services under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

On October 18, 2018, Ricky GREEN, 27-years-old, of Shoal Lake #40 First Nations was arrested by  members of Treaty Three Police Service and Kenora OPP and charged with Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident contrary to Section 252(1)(b) of the Criminal Code in the death of Daniel GREEN.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on October 19, 2018.
