Cook County – Structure Fire on Devil Track Road

Cook CountyCOOK COUNTY – On Sunday, Oct. 14 at 5:15 am, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Marais Fire Department and First Responders, Maple Hill Fire Department & STOP Team, along with Lutsen Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1120 Devil Track Road. The fire was reported by a neighbour who stated they awoke to a loud noise and could see a red glow coming from behind the home, believed to be near where the propane tank is located. Responders were in route at 05:18 am, on the scene at 5:27 am, at which time the home and attached garage containing two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

The homeowner, Thelma Hedstrom, along with daughter Jean and husband who were staying at the home, were able to escape without injury. The homeowner was driven to the hospital by private vehicle for evaluation out precaution and was released.

The Minnesota Duty Officer and State Fire Marshal were called. The cause and origin of the fire are unclear at this time; the Fire Marshal’s Office is completing an investigation.
