Bus Driver Assaulted by Intoxicated Suspect

THUNDER BAY – On October 10, 2018, at approximately 7:20 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Junot Avenue and Windsor Street on a report of a bus driver that had been assaulted.

When officers arrived they spoke to the 31-year-old male driver who indicated that an intoxicated male got on the bus at this location and demanded a free ride. The driver refused and the male struck him with a bottle in a bag. The driver managed to get the male off the bus for the safety of the passengers. Officers located the suspect in the 200 block of Windsor Street and arrested him.

Bryant Shapwaykeesic, 56-years-old appeared in court Thursday morning on charges of Assault with a Weapon and Breach of Probation. He was remanded into custody
