Four Month Investigation Results in Major Drug Seizure

THUNDER BAY – CRIME – On October 9, 2018, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Thunder Bay OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau (POIB), concluded a lengthy investigation involving drug trafficking in the Thunder Bay area. OPP was assisted by officers from the Thunder Bay Police Service, Anishinabek Police Service, and Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.

As a result of the four-month investigation, approximately four kilograms of Cocaine, approximately one kilogram of Marihuana and a large quantity of cash was seized.

Daniel Montgomery, 55 years of age, from Thunder Bay, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking in Schedule l Substance-Cocaine, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a Schedule l Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule ll Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marihuana contrary to section 5(2) CDSA,
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

He has been remanded into custody.
