First snowstorm of the season Wednesday and Thursday.
A low-pressure system from the Southern Plains States is forecast to track northeastward over Lake Superior Wednesday night then to James Bay by Thursday night.
Rain is expected today and Tuesday across Northwestern Ontario, accompanied by brisk east winds. As the low-pressure system gets closer, northeast winds will pull down colder air from the Arctic, causing temperatures to drop to near or below zero Tuesday night, resulting in a changeover to snow.
Latest indications continue to suggest that 15 to 25 cm of snow may fall across the region Wednesday into Thursday. While there is still some uncertainty with the exact location of the heavy snow, it appears areas near a line from Fort Frances to just north of Lake Nipigon have the greatest chance of receiving the highest snowfall accumulations.
This snowstorm may have quite an impact on transportation. Accumulating snow on untreated roads and low visibility in areas of heavier snow will result in hazardous winter driving conditions.
