THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay minor midget Kings skated to a two-game split with the Minnesota Northern Wings over the weekend at Fort William First Nation Arena.
Game 1 played Saturday night saw the Wings skate to a 3-2 overtime victory before the Kings rebounded with a 7-4 triumph Sunday morning.
In Saturday’s match-up, Thunder Bay outshot their opponents 45-20 but some outstanding goaltending from Zach Tyman helped his side pull out the win.
Alex Pineau and Noah Broughton scored for the Kings in the setback while Ryan Shert notched the overtime winner on Kings’ netminder Gage Stewart.
Sunday saw Thunder Bay defenceman Jack Cook tally twice and assisted on two others in the decision.
Pineau and Dalton Mayes had three-point outings while Shaymus Stevenson chipped in with a couple of helpers.
Julien Lefebvre made 25 stops to record the win for the Kings.
Thunder Bay will head to Duluth Oct. 13-14 for a three-game set against the same Wings.
They met at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET Saturday before wrapping things up Sunday at 11 a.m. ET.
