THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead women’s volleyball team finished fifth at the McMaster Thanksgiving Classic this weekend. The Thunderwolves went 2-1 for the entire weekend after facing McMaster, Guelph and Brock.
After flight problems, the Thunderwolves arrived Thursday just in the time for the game against home team McMaster. Against a tough McMaster team, who finished second in the tournament, the Wolves lost 3-1 (12-25, 25-15, 16-25, 22-25).
On day 2 of the tournament, Lakehead defeated Guelph in the consolation semi-final 3-1 (27-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-14). The Thunderwolves were able to land the fifth-place finish after taking down Brock in 5 sets (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 15-10) today.
“This weekend was a great weekend for our team,” said head coach Craig Barclay. “We had an opportunity to play in many different situations and learn how to persevere through them. This weekend was about development and growth. I credit every person on the team for contributing at different times.”
The Thunderwolves are off to Winnipeg next weekend for a tournament at Providence College.
