WINNIPEG – SPORTS – The Lakehead women’s basketball team defeated Winnipeg this afternoon, 62-59, at the University of Winnipeg BOB FM Shootout.
The Thunderwolves led 22-9 after the first quarter but Winnipeg quickly turned it around and outscored Lakehead 18-8. The Thunderwolves held the advantage at the half 30-27 which was the difference in the game as both Winnipeg and Lakehead each scored 32 points in the second half.
“We had a really good start to this one but struggled against Winnipeg zone in the second quarter. This was a great game for us at this stage and after giving up that big lead, and Winnipeg taking a lead themselves, it was great to see us stay composed and battle for the win. Tiffany was super for us on both ends of the floor, Nikki knocked down key threes and Leashja continues to be a major force in the country.”- Thunderwolves Head Coach Jon Kreiner
Leashja Grant finished the day off with a double-double with 21 point and 18 rebounds (8 offensive boards). Nikki Ylagan had 17 points going 5-8 from 3 three and also had 5 steals and 3 assists. Tiffany Reynolds was solid for the Wolves on defence against Winnipeg’s Faith Hezekiah keeping her to only 1 offensive board. Reynolds also had 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Thunderwolves last game of the BOB FM Shootout is tomorrow at 10 am against Brandon.
