TORONTO – Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald stands with the Indian Residential School Survivors in Ontario and across Canada and encourages all to wear their Orange Shirts in solidarity and remembrance.
“As Orange Shirt Day continues to gain momentum across Canada, we must seize this opportunity to join together with all Canadians to educate and create the space for the conversations about the effects of Residential School and inter-generational trauma. Everyone needs to recognize the enormous negative impact these schools have had on the Indigenous peoples across Canada and take this as an opportunity to address these issues nation to nation and move forward together.
This is not just an Indigenous issue but a Canadian issue, which shines a very bright light on a large gap within the true shared history of Canada when we’re talking about Indigenous peoples of Canada. I encourage all Canadians to participate and wear your Orange Shirts on September 30. We must remember Phyllis’ story, along with the stories of all Residential School Survivors in Canada and keep them within our hearts.”
