FORT FRANCES – On August 30, 2018 the Treaty Three Police Service requested the assistance of the OPP with a suspicious death investigation.
An investigation was commenced with members from the Treaty Three Police Service, OPP North West Region Crime Unit, and OPP Forensic Identification Services under the direction of Detective Inspector Darryl Sigouin of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
At that time, Stacy COMEGAN (26 years old) of Big Grassy River First Nation was charged with Indignity to a dead body contrary to Section 182(b) of the Criminal Code.
On September 5, 2018, a post-mortem examination was conducted at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto. The victim was identified as Danielle Big George (23 years old) of Big Island First Nation.
On September 25, 2018, Stacy COMEGAN was arrested in Winnipeg with the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Service and further charged with First Degree Murder contrary to Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code in the death of Danielle Big George. He was transported back to Fort Frances.
On September 26, 2018, he appeared in court in Fort Frances and was remanded into custody.
