FORT FRANCES – The Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to notify the public of a scam that has been reported in the Fort Frances area.

Unknown parties have fraudulently acquired and distributed cheques belonging to a business in Calgary. The culprit(s) have sent the cheques to seemingly random individuals, with one being sent to a residence in Fort Frances. The OPP is working with the Calgary Police Service, the lead agency who are conducting a multi-jurisdictional investigation into the matter.

If you receive a cheque in the mail originating from a business in Calgary that you weren’t expecting, do not deposit the cheque. Contact the OPP via the OPP Communications Centre at 1-888-310-1122, or contact the Rainy River District OPP detachment at 1-807-274-3322 during business hours. Thank you for doing your part to help the OPP combat fraud in the Rainy River District.
