Severe Thunderstorm WarningRED LAKE – WEATHER – Environment Canada has upgraded the Thunderstorm Watch issued earlier today to a Thunderstorm Warning for the area around Red Lake.

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • Ear Falls – Perrault Falls – Western Lac Seul
  • Red Lake – Woodland Caribou Park

At 1:26 p.m. CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

This severe thunderstorm is located 11 kilometres south of Madsen, moving east at 70 km/h.

Locations impacted include:
Snake Falls.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
