DRYDEN – UPDATE – Alert has ended….

There is a Thunderstorm Warning in effect for the Dryden region of Northwestern Ontario.

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • Dryden – Vermilion Bay

At 8:19 p.m. CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located over Lake of the Woods and extends northeastward to north of Sioux Lookout. This line of thunderstorms is moving east at 60 km/h. It has the potential to produce isolated brief tornadoes. Tornado warnings are typically not issued in these scenarios since the primary threat is damaging straight-line winds.

Locations impacted include:
Sioux Narrows, Vermilion Bay, Lac Seul, French Portage, Naongashing, Hawk Lake, Willard Lake, McIntosh, Quibell, Eagle River, Minnitaki and Amesdale.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
