Motor Vehicle Accident in Shuniah Results in Impaired Charges

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that on September 7, 2018, at approximately10:52 pm, officers from the OPP and Shuniah Fire and Emergency Services and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a report of a single vehicle collision that occurred on Sunnyside Beach Road in the Municipality of Shuniah.

The driver of a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) lost control, causing the vehicle to rollover several times before coming to rest. One of the passengers, a 17 year old female was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by ambulance with serious injuries. The driver and two other passengers did not sustain injuries.

As a result of the OPP Investigation, a 17-year-old female from Fort William First Nation was charged with:

-Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content Above 0 contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act,

-Driver Fail to Surrender Licence contrary to section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The investigation is continuing.
