Dryden GM IcedogsDryden – SPORTS – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs are gearing up for their training camp. Training camp begins on Friday, August 31st, 2018 at the Dryden Memorial Arena and will wrap up with an intrasquad game on Sunday, September 2nd, 2018.

The team is looking forward to welcoming back, Malcolm Huemmert, Reid Manning, Connor Mowatt, Eric Stout and Evan Walls, along with local players Graham Oliphant and Trey Palermo. “We are thrilled with our returning core of players. From 3 year vets like Eric Stout to returning rookie of the year candidates like Evan Walls we have an incredibly strong nucleus for this stage of the game. I’ve spoken with most of the players personally, over the summer, and they have reported back that their single focus this year is to defend their championship and to win the Dudley-Hewitt Cup”, Mike Sveinson, President Dryden GM Ice Dogs.

Returning for his third season as an Ice Dog, Eric Stout’s focus is clear, “To win the league, the Dudley-Hewitt Cup and not just play in the RBC Cup, but to win it”.

Second-year player, Evan Walls is finding motivation in last year’s Dudley-Hewitt Cup performance, “With last year’s unfortunate end in the Dudley-Hewitt Cup finals, I am hoping this year I can help the team make our way back to that game and ultimately win it and go to the RBC Cup. I also hope that I can step in as a leader this year and do whatever I can to contribute to the team’s success so that we can accomplish even more in 2018/19 than we did in 2017/18. I can’t wait to get back to Dryden and start the season up.”

There will be a new face behind the Dryden GM Ice Dogs’ bench as they announce Ben Borton as Assistant Coach. Ben has been a familiar face around the organization as Team Chaplin and billet, but the organization is excited to see him take on this new role, “Ben brings a wealth of hockey experience as a player, official, and team chaplain to his new role as Assistant Coach of the team. With a focus on character and team building, Ben will fit in perfectly with Kurt and the rest of the bench staff to help assure that our team is coached in a way that we are accustomed to” Mike Sveinson.
