KENORA – NEWS  – “Increasing tourism in the North is good for local businesses, hotels, and restaurants,” said Minister Greg Rickford. “That’s why our government is investing in tourism projects that build infrastructure and create jobs across the Northwest.”

$1 Million for New Art Centre Announced

Today, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines Greg Rickford announced $1 million in NOHFC funding for construction of the new Lake of the Woods Art Centre. The art centre will house 65 pieces of art by Canadian artist Walter J. Phillips in addition to art from other local and Indigenous artists. The project will create two full-time jobs.

“Kenora has a progressive vision for our community that embraces our natural beauty and creates a natural attraction for visitors,” said Dave Canfield, Mayor of Kenora. “Through strong community partnerships, we continue to grow and investments like this will assist us in making Kenora the premier destination in the Northwest.”

Minister Rickford also announced $33,333 for the City of Kenora to undertake planning and design work for the redevelopment of Kenora’s Harbourfront with a focus on future business and tourism activities.

“The support of the provincial government is integral to this project. This funding will ensure that a dynamic, first-class art centre and tourist attraction is established in Kenora,” said Lori Nelson, Museum Director, Lake of the Woods Museum.
