KENORA – WEATHER – Alert over.
Environment Canada has upgraded their weather alert to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the Kenora Region.
5:05 PM EDT Saturday 04 August 2018
Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
- Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whitedog
- Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls – Morson
At 4:05 p.m. CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain.
A north to south line of thunderstorms has moved eastwards past Kenora with radar indicating that a few of these thunderstorms are producing severe weather. Thunderstorms are moving northeastwards at 40 km/h.
Communities in the path include:
Vermilion Bay, McIntosh and Quibell.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
