OPP have laid a number of charges in a stolen vehicle investigation

RED LAKE – REGIONAL – Red Lake OPP have had a few calls of note this past week. Here are the reports from the detachment.

On July 20, 2018, Red Lake OPP were conducting foot patrol within the municipality when they came upon a group of intoxicated persons.

One of the intoxicated individuals became confrontational with the police during the arrest and attempted to disarm one of the officers.

As a result, William Sukiennik (61) of Red Lake has been charged with disarming a peace officer, contrary to section 270.1(1) of the Criminal Code and resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code.

Sukiennik is to appear in court August 30, 2018, in Red Lake.

On July 20, 2018, at approximately 4:56 p.m., Red Lake OPP received a public complaint of an impaired boater on Red Lake. Officers responded to the complaint and found the operator of the vessel to be under the influence of alcohol. The male operator was arrested and transported to the Red Lake OPP detachment for a test.

Coutinho CASTICO (29) of Red Lake has been charged for impaired operation of a vessel, contrary to Section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and Operation of vessel with more than 80 mg of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

CASTICO is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake on August 30, 2018, to answer to the charges.

On July 23, 2018, at 10:53 p.m. Red Lake OPP received a complaint of an impaired driver traveling on 125 Highway towards Balmertown. Officers located the white Ford F-150 and its driver. As officers were speaking with the driver they had a suspicion of alcohol. The driver was administered an Approved Screening Device (ASD). Failing the roadside device the driver was arrested and transported to the Red Lake Detachment for tests.

Chase COX, age 23, of Lively, Ontario, is charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in 100 Millilitres of Blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

COX was released on a Promise to Appear in Red Lake Court, August 30, 2018. The vehicle was impounded for a minimum of 7 days and he was issued a mandatory drivers licence suspension.

The public is encouraged to call 911 or contact police at 1-888-310-1122 whenever suspecting that a driver is impaired while operating a motor vehicle whether it is a Car, Truck, Motorcycle, ATV, Snowmobile, Boat or even an Airplane.

Red Lake OPP are investigating a stolen vehicle that was taken between the hours of 5:00 p.m. on July 21, 2018, and 8:45 p.m. on July 22, 2018.

The vehicle was taken from Hammell road in Red Lake and was recovered in the City of Kenora on the morning of July 23, 2018.

The vehicle is a White 2006 Dodge Ram. It is described as having a fiber glass box, steel boxes on the driver side, ladder attachment on the passenger side, bush bumper on front, speaker on roof and rotating orange lights on the roof.
