Red Lake OPP Charge Drivers with Drinking and Driving Offences

RED LAKE – The Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with drinking and driving in the past few days.

On July 15 at 6:40 am, police were conducting a RIDE check in the Municipality of Red Lake. One of the drivers that entered the check stop was found to be under the influence of alcohol. A roadside demand was made which the driver failed. At that time the driver was arrested and returned to detachment for further tests.

Rick Campbell, 44, of Red Lake was charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. He was released to appear in Red Lake court on August 30, 2018, to answer to the charges.

On July 17 at approximately 8:30 pm, police received a report of an impaired driver in downtown Red Lake. Police located the vehicle traveling on Howey Street. The vehicle was observed to travel through the red light at Howey Street and was subsequently stopped. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. She was returned to the detachment for further tests.

Rona Meekis, 27, of Red Lake was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 253 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code. She was released by way of a promise to appear in Red Lake court on August 30, 2018.
