THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay launched a new website today at City Hall aimed at enhancing access to City information and services and strengthening engagement with citizens.
Using a responsive design, the site is mobile friendly and built for accessibility, meeting AA accessible standards. Traffic to the City’s website continues to increase each year, with an average of 5,316 visitors a day to the site.
The city states that website is the first place prospective new citizens will go when considering their relocation options, and a first stop for business leaders considering expansion opportunities in new markets.
“The new thunderbay.ca website will help us more effectively engage with residents and visitors alike,” said Karen Lewis, Director of Corporate Strategic Services, which implemented the overall website renewal project with the City’s Corporate Information Technology Division. “We recognize that needs have changed since our last website renewal 10 years ago, and we need to change too.”
The website has new, built-in tools including:
- “I Want To” section of quick links to apply, register, pay, report or learn more
- Enhanced events calendar
- Ability to subscribe to news and events
- Emergency messaging system
- Social media integration, and much more.
“Nearly half of the visitors to our website are using mobile devices rather than desktop computers, but the City’s website was not mobile friendly, making it difficult to navigate,” said Jodi Wright, Communications Specialist. ”Now we have a site that can be accessed on any type of mobile device.”
