THUNDER BAY – Day Starter – Good Morning Northwestern Ontario. It is Monday, April 30, 2018. This morning starts with a pair of freezing rain warnings for Sachigo Lake, Bearskin Lake, Big Trout Lake, and areas of the far north. Weather for those communities is likely to impact air transportation. As well up to 15 cm of snow is possible before this Arctic weather system is done with the far north.

For Thunder Bay, we can expect sunny skies this morning followed by a mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon. Winds becoming south 20 km/h this morning. Monday’s high +18c. The UV index will be 6 or high.

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – On 30 April 2018 at 12:00 AM, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service received an alarm for a garage on fire in the Minto Pl area. Three pumpers responded carrying 13 firefighters.

The first arriving unit found a garage at the rear of a residential property, engulfed in flames, with smoke filling the sky above the structure. A second alarm was called and the fire attacked utilizing SCBA’s and hose lines. A water supply line was established from a nearby fire hydrant, that stretched across Walsh St. Read the full report.

A period of freezing rain likely today.

Road Closures

Starting Monday, April 30, a section of Balmoral Street, located between John Street and Oliver Road, will be closed to through traffic for about three weeks for storm sewer construction.

Local traffic will be allowed at each end of the construction site.

Motorists are asked to use extra caution and to obey all posted signage.

Gas Up for Less

The price of a litre of gas is actually the same across Northwestern Ontario. Fuel prices across the region range from $1.399 in Dryden, to $1.399 at the Husky on Chipman Street in Kenora,  In Thunder Bay, the lowest price in the city is $1399 at the Esso on Red River Road.  Out on the Fort William First Nation, gas prices are at $1.247 at THP.
