FORT FRANCES – NEWS – Another busy weekend for Fort Frances OPP.
On April 21, 2018, at 10:25 pm, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a traffic complaint on Kings Highway 11 in Watten Township. Officers patrolled and located the vehicle and driver.
During the investigation, the driver, Raylene SMITH, age 28 years of Emo Township, failed the roadside test and was arrested and transported to OPP Detachment for breath tests. The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory 7 days. The driver was subsequently charged with,
-Having Over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
On April 23, 2018, at 5:30 pm, officers from the Atikokan Detachment received a report of a motor vehicle collision in the Township of Atikokan. Officers attend the scene, and after conducting an investigation arrested an Atikokan man. The driver, Rodney BENJAMIN, age 33 years of Atikokan, was transported to OPP detachment for tests. The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory 7 days. The driver was subsequently charged with,
-Adult Driving While Ability Impaired contrary to section 254(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
-Having Over 80 milligrams of Alcohol in 100 milliters of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
Both drivers will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.
Also on the evening of April 20, 2018, officers were patrolling on Kings Highway 11. Near Kings Highway 71 officers observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Radar confirmed the driver was traveling at 125 kilometers an hour in a posted 60 kilometer an hour zone. The driver, a 19 years man from Baudette Minnesota, has been charged with stunt driving, his motor vehicle has been impounded for 7 days and he will appear in court on a later day to answer to the charge.
Officers also issued approximately twenty Provincial Offence Notices across the district for various offenses.
Members of the OPP also wish to remind motorist that as warm weather approaches wild animals tend to more active at sunrise and sunsets, a driver should pay more attention during this time while driving.
