ATTAWAPISKAT – The Ontario Provincial Police and NAPS are working together to investigate a shooting of a fifty-one-year-old male in Attawapiskat. The incident which was witnessed by a number of people has many in the community expressing concern about the impact on those who saw the incident.
The OPP report, “On April 19, 2018, at approximately 5:30 pm members from the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) received reports of a male in possession of a firearm in a residence.
Officers responded which resulted in a 51-year-old male being wounded. The male was transported to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the altercation.
NAPS has requested assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Matt Watson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
Members of the North East Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services will be attending to assist with the investigation.
