THUNDER BAY – DAY STARTER – Good Morning Northwestern Ontario.It is April 15, 2018, and hard as it is to believe a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Thunder Bay.

Winter seems to have its claws dug in tight into Northwestern Ontario. Environment Canada has issued a Heavy Snowfall Warning for Thunder Bay and there are weather advisories and warnings out across the region around Lake Superior.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay

A major winter storm is expected.

A major winter storm is expected beginning today.

A slow-moving weather system approaching from southwest of the Great Lakes is expected to bring winter storm conditions today through Monday night.

Snow is forecast to begin near the eastern shores of Lake Superior near noon today and then spread northeastward through tonight.

Significant snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm, as well as brisk winds gusting up to 50 km/h, will result in localized blowing snow and difficult travel conditions today through Monday.

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – On 14 April 2018, at 4:20 AM, a person walking by the Foundry Restaurant heard an alarm coming from the building and observed smoke in the interior. 911 was called and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service responded with three pumpers carrying 13 firefighters. Damage is considered light, and this popular establishment will re-open soon.

THUNDER BAY – Ontario NDP candidates Judith Monteith-Farrell for Thunder Bay-Atikokan and Lise Vaugeois for Thunder Bay-Superior North, threw their support behind the improved pensions message being discussed in Thunder Bay Friday. The price of a litre of gas is actually more expensive today in Dryden than Thunder Bay. Fuel prices across the region range from $1.349 in Dryden, to $1.24.4 at the Husky on Chipman Street in Kenora,  In Thunder Bay, the lowest price in the city is $1346 at the Esso on Red River Road.  Out on the Fort William First Nation, gas prices are at $1.177 at THP.
