RED LAKE – The Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Northwest Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit, OPP Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau (POIB) and OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) joined forces to conduct an investigation into the trafficking of crystal methamphetamine in Red Lake.
A search warrant was executed on April 10, 2018, and approximately 24 grams of crystal methamphetamine was seized along with other drug paraphernalia and evidence of trafficking. The approximate street value of the seized drugs is $7,200.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid against 34-year-old Anthony HOWELL of Red Lake:
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance – Crystal Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA)
- Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance – Crystal methamphetamine contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession of Property Obtained By Crime contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
