Women’s Hockey – Midget C Fury team wins Bronze at OWHA Provincials

THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Thunder Bay Women’s Association Hockey Midget Fury B & C teams had a great weekend at Ontario Women’s Hockey Provincials.   In the B division, after winning their first game 6-0, then a disappointing 2-1 loss in their second game, the Midget B Fury battled back on Saturday for a 2-1-0 record to take them to the next round.   The would face 6th ranked Brantford Icecats. The Icecats opened the scoring early in the first but a pass from Caitlyn Radbourne to Brooke Herman mid-way through first tied the game at 1. Late in the second, the Icecats took the lead. After a strong third period and no luck, the Fury couldn’t find the back of the net to lose 2-1 and end their year.

In the C Division on Friday night the Midget Fury C would face the Brockville Angles only to lose 3-1. In the final round robin game against the Mount Forest Ram the Midget Fury C came out strong scoring 3 in the first period and 3 in the second period for a final of 6-0. Schnepf, Gauthier, Fucile, and Badani lead the charge with a goal an assist each.

Midget Fury C faced Sault Ste. Marie Wildcats in the quarterfinals. It was a tight match but at 11:03 of the second Julia Kaemingh found the back of the net with Sarah Sacino with the assist. Femke Attema shut the door the rest of the way for her second straight shutout.

In the semi-finals, the Fury fell behind halfway through the first. Early in the second Caitlyn Yesno- Linklater took a feed from Kristina Kemppainen to tie the game at 1-1.  IIderton added 2 before the end of the second to push Fury in the bronze medal game.   In the medal game, the Fury took on the St. Thomas Panthers. It was a close battle between two even teams. After a 0-0 tie in regulation, it would take double overtime to find a winner. At 3:49 of the second overtime Madeline Skifington ended the game with a pass from Caitlyn Yesno-Linklater to bring home the Bronze.
