THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead men’s and women’s Nordic skiing teams both finished second at the 2018 Canadian Colleges and University Nordic Championships (CCUNC) this weekend. The Champions were hosted by the Lakehead Superior Nordic Ski Association and ran from March 10-17 at Lappe Nordic Centre.
On Day one the women battled for a close silver medal against Carleton in the team sprint with Thunderwolves Erika Mihell and Camille Hamm finishing in a time of 14:06.37. Beth Fowler and Holly Fleming also finished eighth for the Wolves.
Nipissing and Laval were the top finishers for the men with Lakehead’s Noah Thompson and Gavin Shields coming in a few seconds later to pick up the bronze.
Day two was the Classic Interval start with 3 Thunderwolves (Lisle Compton, Camille Hamm, Erika Mihell) finishing in the top ten for the women. Noah Thompson came in sixth in the men’s race in a time of 28:50.4 and Geoff Way-Nee finished tenth and Gavin Shields came in twelfth in 29:22.8.

After all races, Noah Thompson and Gavin Shields finished individually fifth and sixth overall. Lisle Compton finished second and Erika Mihell placed seventh.
