THUNDER BAY – LIVING – The City of Thunder Bay advises, “Due to warmer weather conditions, many outdoor rink sites have closed for the season. Crews will attempt to maintain as many ice surfaces as possible to keep them in service through the March break.”

Updates related to rink closures are available at thunderbay.ca/rinks

As of Monday, March 12, the change room facilities at the supervised rink sites will be open from 9 am – 4 pm. On Saturday, March 17, all rinks will be closed for the season.

“Parks staff did a great job building and maintaining our outdoor rinks this year,” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager – Parks & Open Spaces. “Outdoor skating is a great way to stay active in the winter months and I hope residents were able to get out and enjoy Thunder Bay’s many outdoor skating rinks. We look forward to another great outdoor skating season next winter.”

The City is encouraging residents to visit Prince Arthur’s Landing outdoor skating rink, which will be open every day from 11:30 am – 9 pm, weather permitting, until the end of March Break.

Residents can also take part in free indoor skating during the March break. On Monday, March 12, and Wednesday, March 14, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm, residents can skate free of charge at both Port Arthur Arena and Fort William Gardens. On Friday, March 16, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm, residents can skate free of charge at the Current River Arena.
