THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead men’s and women’s basketball teams will play their last regular season home games this weekend in the Thunderdome against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Saturday night will be dedicated to the Thunderwolves graduating athletes who have put in an immense amount of hard work and dedicated towards their student-athlete careers at Lakehead University. The athletes will be honoured directly after the women’s basketball game and before the men’s tip-off at 8 pm.

Women’s Basketball (14-8)

“Laurier is a very well coached team with one of the top point guards in the country surrounded by a lot of good shooters. We will need to contain Nicole Morrison while making sure we stick to their shooters. Saturday is our Senior’s Night game where we will be honouring Jerika Baldin, Bridget O’Reilly, August Ricketts and Katelyn Andrea. It will be an emotional night and I hope our amazing fans will come out to support their seniors that have dedicated so much of their time to the Thunderwolves Women’s Basketball Program,” says Coach Jon Kreiner.
Laurier (10-12) is sixth in the OUA West and is led by guard Nicole Morrison. Morrison is third in the OUA for points per game with 19.4 and has been unstoppable in the majority of games played this season. Morrison led her team with 37 points to upset the Queen’s Gaels, 72-70, giving them their first loss of the year in November.
Leashja Grant continues to lead the OUA in points (22.4) and rebounds (13.7) with seven consecutive double-doubles.
The Lakehead women’s basketball team will be also hosting an OUA Playoff game vs. the Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:00 pm at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk at the Fieldhouse or online (click here) starting Wednesday, February 14. Tickets can also be purchased at this weekends basketball games and will be $12 for adults and $8 for student/senior.

Men’s Basketball (2-20)

“After a tough weekend at Brock we’re looking to get back on track against a good Laurier team. Kokko is one of the toughest guards in the league and it will be key for us to limit him as best we can. It will be a special weekend for our graduating seniors Mor Menashe, Noel Jones and Mike Theodore, and hopefully, we can compete both nights and put ourselves in a position to get a win.” – Coach Ryan Thomson
Laurier has a record of 10-12 and is fourth in the OUA West. Laurier has Tevaun Kokko who averages 20.1 points per game along with multiple athletes that can get hot at any time and put up big numbers. First-year guard Ali Sow is a big difference maker for Laurier this year as he averages 16 points per game with a career-high of 31 against Brock a few weeks ago.
